Gourmet Baskets
A gift that always impresses are gourmet baskets. They
contain items that some consider elite, and gourmet is often associated
with snobbery but it can also refer to someone with refined tastes and
passions. Gourmet is a cultural ideal that is associated with fine preparation
of food and drink so it may be difficult to fill a gift basket with
the correct ingredients.
Because gourmet baskets contain food and drink of the highest quality
they are often very expensive. Add a gourmet wine or two and the price
really goes up, a really good bottle of wine can cost at least $20,
and it goes up from there with the most gourmet wines in the $60-$80
range. If the basket is to be enjoyed by more than four people, more
than two bottles should be purchased.
Other popular food and drink in gourmet baskets are cheeses, fine baked
goods, smoked meats and other delicacies. Smoked salmon can be shared
easily, the meat often flakes off right onto crackers or bread. It can
actually be more expensive to create these baskets from scratch, pre-arranged
baskets are often created in bulk which lowers the cost and the appeal
to some.
