Gift Baskets FAQs
What are the most popular items put into gift
baskets?
The most popular items included in gift baskets are prepackaged foods
such as popcorn, pretzels, chips and dips such as salsa, nuts, dried
fruit, flavored mini hot or cold drinks, cookies, fudge and too many
other products to mention. It is best to avoid items that are perishable
especially if the basket has to be shipped. The recipient(s) should
be notified if there is anything that can go bad, such as cheese or
bread, when the gift is given to ensure that they refrigerate the items,
or consume them quickly. Fruit is another item commonly found in gift
baskets. Some baskets do not need food at all, such as baby baskets
which commonly contain baby accessories and get well baskets which commonly
include games and puzzles.
How much do gift baskets cost?
Gift baskets can be made to fit almost any budget, but the majority
of baskets are in the $40-$60 range. Gourmet gift baskets that contain
high quality foods and wines can exceed $500 at times, but it is very
rare to find a prepackaged gift basket in that range. Most of the really
expensive gift baskets are custom ordered, and not very common. A gift
basket can be made at home for much less then purchasing one online,
there is no shipping to worry about and handcrafted items can be included
as well. Items to put in the basket are endless and come in every price
range.
Can I send wine gift baskets across the country or overseas?
Unfortunately in many cases it is very difficult to ship any item that
contains alcohol, even if the drink has already been taxed. Shipping
alcohol across borders varies in legality from state to state and country
to country, some places allow for one or two bottles to be imported
while some states don’t allow anything alcoholic to be brought
into the state unless it is brought by a state approved distributer.
Most of these distributors only deal in cases, so a single bottle in
a basket can be a problem. If you are giving the gift locally, you can
order a basket without alcohol and then add the alcohol yourself when
the basket arrives. Creating a custom basket is a viable alternative
to shipping alcohol over borders.
