Cheese Gift Baskets

There are over 1,000 different types of cheeses in the world, each one manufactured by multiple companies in different quantities and qualities. This can make choosing a cheese gift basket very difficult. Choose a distributer that gets their cheeses in large wheels. They usually can cut the specific size needed from the wheel, then vacuum seal it to preserve the natural taste and freshness.

Some good additions to cheese gift baskets are good cracker and bread, but most important is the cheese. Brie is creamy with a white crust and is excellent paired with wine. Gouda is often smoked to give a robust flavor and is usually aged over a year. It is excellent paired with a fruity merlot, and also makes an excellent dessert cheese paired with fruit.

Swiss cheeses are great for eating, but are especially suited to cooking purposes because they melt very consistently. Goat cheeses are usually very sweet and creamy. They are not aged for very long, sometimes less than a week so they are often soft enough to spread easily. Honey or different herbs are often added as well to give it a unique taste. These pair best with a Sauvignon Blanc or a similar wine.
